SMKN 33 in North Jakarta will Be Relocated

North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department is going to relocate State Vocational School (SMKN) 33 from its current location on Jalan Gading Mas Timur II, RW 10, Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, Kelapa Gading Sub-District, North Jakarta. The school building as wide as 3,000 square meters is no longer feasible for learning and teaching activities (KBM).

Head of North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department, Mustafa Kemal, said that ideally the area for SMK building is 5,000 square meters. “SMK’s curriculum is different to senior high school (SMA)’s curriculum. SMK’s curriculum is based on link and match with the professional world,” he stated, Thursday (4/24).
Regarding SMKN 33 relocation, Kemal told that North Jakarta Mayor, Heru Budi Hartono, has given several solutions. Among those solutions are by independently looking for an empty land around Sunter and Kelapa Gading or by asking for project compensation from developers who use government’s lands.

As for the second option, since there is a land owned by Jakarta Public Works Department which built into apartment by Agung Podomoro (developer), the mayor will ask them to build educational facilities,” he explained.
Kemal stressed that the process will be done as fast as possible. At least, the certainty for land availability could be known this year, thus the relocation of the school with 497 students and 4 majors can be realized soon.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of SMKN 33 Quality Management Division, Richard Maghani, admitted that the school has small practice rooms, such as for hotel practice, sewing, cooking, and restaurant. As a result, the classrooms had to be partitioned.
“If according to the curriculum demands, there must be moving class. But due to our limitation, we haven’t applied it. We’re also having limitation in production unit,” he uttered.
According to Maghani, as one of hospitality vocational school in North Jakarta, SMKN 33 is enthused by many students. Therefore, his party will add one more class for each major next year. “In 2014-2015 term, we’re going to add classes, one for each major,” he disclosed.
